This wasn’t their first rodeo.

Could the Gibeonites have walked this path before?  Maybe!  It was a well thought out plan.  Everything appeared to be old …“they worked craftily, and went and pretended to be ambassadors.  And they took old sacks on their donkeys, old wineskins torn and mended, old and patched sandals on their feet, and old garments on themselves; and all the bread of their provision was dry and moldy.  And they went to Joshua, to the camp at Gilgal, and said to him and to the men of Israel, “We have come from a far country; now therefore, make a covenant with us.  Joshua 9:11-13 NKJV”  What was Joshua to do?  I know what he should have done.  He should have sought God’s counsel, but he didn’t.  With two wins under his belt he may have been feeling over confident. He may have thought he was wise enough to figure it out on his own, but he wasn’t.  We are never wise enough to figure it out on our own!  Never!  This is why we have a God and the Bible. The Bible is full of people who have “been there and done that.”  It is a road map for a safe travel, we would be wise to use it.

In His Name,
